Harmonica World Record

A special world record in Trossingen!

The record

On Sunday, September 09th 2007 starting at 4:00 pm, during the Anniversary Party for 150 Years Hohner in Trossingen, we are going to try to break the Guinness World Record for "biggest harmonica ensemble". Washington hold until then the current record with 1706 players, but we believe we will get over 2000 players together to present to the official examiners of the Guinness Book Company.

You will be able to purchase a special but simple "world record  harmonica" at the event, but of course you are invited to participate using your own harmonica, as long as it is tuned in C major. You will learn the special "world record song" in Trossingen, where experienced players will show you how it goes.

The song

We asked the renowned composer Hans-Günther Kölz to come up with a simple, but catchy melody for this world record. This song can be played on the different types of harmonicas. The specially designed "world record harmonica" has a very easy to follow color system which will make sure that you will be able to play the melody easily. The colors under the notes in the staff show you which holes to play, a filled arrow pointed upwards means "blow!", a hollow arrow downwards means "draw!".
You can download the staff by clicking on the picture on the left (World Record Melody) and place it on a document to print it out (e. g.: MS Word). It is of course also possible to print it directly from the browser window. To do so, just hold down the Ctrl + P keys.

Listen to it!

You can also listen to the song online. Just click on the play button on the left and adjust the volume to your liking.

We wish you lots of fun playing the melody. Start practicing today!

How To Play The Harmonica:

The new Hohner Jubilee Harmonica is a proper musical instrument, ideal for playing simple melodies. The 4 channels give the notes of a complete C-major scale. Each channel can produce two different notes, one when you blow (exhale) and one when you draw (inhale).
To play your harmonica, form your lips to a pout as if you were going to whistle and enclose the desired channel opening with them. First blow, then draw and the notes will sound one after another. Please click on the illustration opposite.
